I would have to say that the gas buy down was a great outreach into the community. It perplexed many people here as to why anyone would do such a thing? It gave us the wonderful opportunity to tell them why. We were extremely surprised at the TV news footage that covered it and found it ironic that we had to pay for an ad in the Tampa Bay Times newspaper to advertise in the beginning for it, but TV media showed up to cover help into the community. We didn't do it for the media coverage or a pat on the back, we did it to share Christ's love. This whole event may even seem gimmicky or whatever skeptical word you would like to use, but reaching people is our main goal and showing them that churches still reach out to the community, that God is not Dead and his love lives in people.
I think about the people and flocks of people that went to Jesus for one thing, most were not saved, why were they going to him? They wanted something. They usually wanted healing but they got that and so much more. I think of the woman with the issue of blood in Luke 8:43-48. She merely wanted to touch him for healing, but she got salvation in the process. People in general are looking for something. They are looking for that next big thing, they are looking for help, they are looking for healing, they are looking for love. If we get just this one opportunity to share Christ's love with them, it will all be worth it. I copied a link to some of the news coverage here if you want to check it out. http://t.co/SCiznLMzAl |
